Who can use their own library card at BDL?
Part-time residents, if they have a MiCard.
Northland Cooperative (reciprocal borrowing agreement): Kalkaska, Oscoda, Otsego, and Traverse Area library card holders.
All PAC2 libraries (share a catalog): Alcona County, Bliss, Boyne Falls, Caledonia, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Glennie, Grand Lake, Hillman, Lewiston, Lincoln, Mackinaw, Millersburg, Mikado, Montmorency, Onaway, Pellston, Petoskey, Posen, Rogers City, Taquamenon, and Walloon.
BDL also participates in the Michigan Electronic Library's (MeL) visiting patron program.
How do I get a library card?
Come to BDL and bring some type of proof of residency such as driver’s license, utility bill, or passport.
I lost my library card, can I get a replacement?
Yes, we charge $1 to replace a lost library card.
Circulation
How many library items may I check out?
There are no number limits for checking out books at BDL. Patrons are limited to 10 DVDs per household, as well as one wifi hotspot per household at a time.
How long can I check materials out from the library?
The standard loan period is one week for DVDs and items from the Tools Collection, two weeks for new books, and three weeks for all other materials owned by the Boyne District Library.
What is the overdue policy for materials?
We are fine free! All non-digital items (books, DVDs, CDs, Audio Books) do not accrue late fees. If not returned at all, your account will be charged for the item and suspended until it is returned. A charge of $5 per day will be accrued for overdue use of any Tools Collection items.
Can I request materials to be purchased by the library?
The goal of selection is to provide collections that meet the informational, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the customers in the Library’s legal service area. Patrons may request materials either online or at the library by completing a Material Request Form.
What is the overdue policy for MeL materials?
MeL items (Michigan eLibrary system for access to state-wide materials) are due in one month.
How can I renew library materials?
You may renew materials online by logging in to your BDL account, by calling the library at 231-582-7861, or by stopping by the library in-person. MeL items must be renewed through MeL.
How can I access my library account online?
Access the My Account link at the top of this website, or log in here. You will need your BDL library card number and your PIN number. Check with the library if you need help accessing that information.
What do I do if I have lost or damaged library materials?
Return the damaged material and library staff will inform you what the replacement or repair cost will be.
How can I find out which books, videos, audio books, or other materials the library owns?
Check out our searchable online catalog or stop by the library.
How do Interlibrary Loans work?
BDL shares a catalog with many libraries in Northern Michigan, as well as libraries throughout Michigan through Michigan Electronic Library. BDL patrons may request items from these other libraries to be delivered to BDL. Items may also be returned to BDL.
What does the library charge for faxing, copying, printing, etc.?
Currently, BDL charges 10 cents per page for black/white and color copies and prints. Fax services are 25 cents per page. There is no cost to scan and email a document.
